Colorful Contemporary Impressionist Landscape, Tree Painting, Mixed Media, “One Answer” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

 

I tend to look at the ground while walking so I don’t trip and fall again. I seem to break bones easily these days! When I did stop one day and look up, the scene was breathtaking! I just stood there and took the time to stare at the leaves of many colors and the light dancing on and through them. In my walk through life I’ve learned that my answers to questions come from above and so I created this painting, “One Answer” to illustrate that there is but one answer to my questions and it is to look up and listen to the Creator of all. Many people respond to this painting because of the contrast of colors and it’s drama. I hope this painting will be a blessing to anyone that takes a moment to look at it and allows it to tell you it’s message. Enjoy!

We can be so busy moving ahead and yearning to reach goals we think need to be met that we forget what is important. My grandfather said to me once, "you don't have to make all the mistakes, lean on the wisdom of others, learn from their mistakes!" I was inspired to create a scene that felt progressive and moving forward, but at the same time revealing a glimpse of a bit of the past, an old building, a previous home or safe place. Sometimes the answers are right where we started and we must not forget that. No matter our beginnings, they are our history, the landscape of our life story!

“Headed For Home” is the title for this painting and this time it seemed to name itself! I occasionally have a painting that not only paints itself (almost) but also has a strong identity. Home means different things but this painting tells the story of our hearts longing to be home, in a place of safety and comfort, a place we can be welcomed. The light is always on and leading us back home no matter where our travels lead. The light shown here represents to me the light of Christ as He leads the way home. I can’t add anymore to that!

Contemporary Abstract Landscape, Fine Art Painting “The Way Out is Up” by Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

Sometimes after I've been painting several hours I step back and am surprised to see an image I didn't purposely paint. In addition to those surprises some paintings seem to paint themselves with little effort. This painting, "The Way Out Is Up" is one of those special paintings. When I stand and stare at it with my eyes fixed on it all of a sudden I feel transported to the middle of a forest. I can hear the birds singing and the breeze gently rustling the leaves as a sense of calm pours over me. I was very surprised at how effortlessly this painting came together with all it's subtle greens and the light from above filtering through. The story behind the title for this painting is this...I get lost very easily and so how do I find my way? I need to look up... In the forest if I was lost and if I had remembered any of my "cub scout mom lessons" I might have a compass with me but otherwise maybe I would look up and search for the sun to get an idea of the direction I was going. Outside of the forest and meandering through the "day to day messes" I have learned that the way out of those piles of trouble is to look up for the Son. Just thought I would share with you...it has been what has blessed me and been my comfort. Thank you for stopping to look at my painting and read this!

I’ve always enjoyed looking through those books showcasing beautiful gardens that seem to invite a visitor to sit and enjoy the view. Those get the attention but not all gardens are that spectacular. I am often grateful for a bit of shade and some unusual plants that have survived on their own to surround my bench or even just my blanket on the ground. I treasure the moments I can spend outside surrounded by the simple beauty of nature. It’s these times I first express sincere gratitude to the Creator of the creations and then rest in the moment. Yes, it must be repeated, gratitude is the position I take as I “Approach the Garden”. Perhaps the garden can be anywhere and everywhere...for this I am grateful!

Contemporary Abstract Landscape, Fine Art Painting “Survived” by Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

I surprised myself when I used these colors to create this painting. I chose more neutral ones to be a backdrop for the sparks of random color peaking through instead of bold color throughout. I wanted to express how I felt when I viewed the remains of an area near my home that had survived a storm and saw new growth. In the middle of the death and sadness of the event I saw new life overcoming adversity and it was a reminder that yes we can go through the storm and there will be new life and a new beginning on the other side. Art can be healing. The title, “Survived”, is one we can all wear as we push through the our storms.

Contemporary Abstract Landscape, Tree Art Painting “Restoration” by Texas Artist Holly Hunter Berry

I live in a city that has had incredible growth but I’m not always happy to see buildings destroyed to put up new ones. I am a bit nostalgic and wonder why buildings can’t just be restored. I looked to the landscape to watch how in nature an area can be altered by the years and evolve. Restoration appears to be an ongoing occurrence and perhaps a model for our lives. I named my painting of this landscape “Restoration” to remind me of the rebirth we can go through and yet still retain who we are, just with a fresh, clean start.

Contemporary Abstract Landscape, Tree Art Painting “Shelter in Plain Sight” by Texas Artist Holly Hunter Berry

Do you see the building? Some miss it and just see the trees or they see it but don't think much about it. Shelter comes in many forms and when you need it the search begins. It is easy to miss that the shelter you need is right in front of you. We look high and low but the truth is what I'm trying to show in this painting and so I titled it "Shelter In Plain Sight". Isn't it a comfort to know that? It's not an easy concept but I have learned that it is indeed true. Next time you find yourself in need try looking right where you are and realize you are protected and sheltered from the storm by the Son!

Contemporary Colorful Landscape,Wildlife, Deer Painting, Mixed Media, “Food is Provided” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

I am indeed a city girl having lived in major cities all of my life with the exception of a brief time in a "small Texas town" in my teen years. Most wildlife I've seen live in the zoo and Bambi is the name of any deer running around! So, when I am able to leave the city and explore nature I LOVE it and am like a little kid when surprised by the unexpected. Last year I had a wonderful time visiting with a friend of mine who lives in a small Texas town where deer are running around everywhere and that means on her property as well. Imagine the surprise when I watched her feed the regulars that come to her home for dinner daily and are even comfortable standing a few inches away! I don't want to ever lose the joy of watching the simple basic occurrences in life that are taken for granted as we age out of childhood. Something I thought about as I watched the deer eating was that it seemed like a lesson and I will try to explain....

 "Although in life there are uncertainties and unfair moments, "Food is Provided" in ways that can be unexpected and in ways never predicted. I painted this to remind me to expect the unexpected and to continue to be grateful for daily treasures. We are provided for, we just need to accept the gift!"

Contemporary Landscape, Tree Painting, Mixed Media, “Lines Are Blurred” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

This painting was inspired by one of my walks in the woods late one summer. There was such a variety of trees and various plants to look at that I was made even more aware of my lack of knowledge of the native plants of the area. As a painter I started to try to decode the numerous greens and subtle shades of red, orange, blue and more. I chose to exaggerate these colors in my painting to draw attention to the multiple edges and shapes that a casual observer might just call green. No, they are not all green but a lovely combination of multiple colors all blending together in one landscape. "Lines Are Blurred" might tell several stories...I suppose you can pick the one that rings true to you! Enjoy and thank you for looking!
